NIKE GS: DEADLY BY NATURE
SEPTEMBER 6, 2012We challenged ourselves to re-imagine the football boot. We threw away everything and ignored convention. The result? Our fastest, deadliest, lightest, greenest boot. Introducing the Nike GS.
GS Traction Plate:
We radically re-engineered the traction plate spine for explosive speed: coring out a diamond silhouette for optimal flex and agility. Made with 50% Pebax Renu®, derived from 97% castor beans, the most renewable resource we have used.
Heel Counter:
The Pebax Renu® heel counter is molded in an anatomical, asymmetric shape to lock the foot down for better response and control. Made with at least 77% castor beans, which require less water to grow than other natural materials.
Plate Base:
Anatomically positioned studs maximize speed in multiple directions for optimized responsiveness on the pitch. Constructed with an eco-TPU derived from castor beans- reducing our impact on the world’s food resource and satisfying only our appetite for innovation with a material 15% lighter than traditional TPU.
Sockliner:
Our lightest and most responsive sockliner to date. Our engineers innovated a process that eliminated chemical agents and a top layer for optimized lightweight performance and lighter environmental impact.
Toe Board:
As we cut out one toeboard, all waste is re-purposed to manufacture another toeboard, creating a closed loop product. You score and we score towards our long-term goal of zero waste.
Vamp:
We obsessed to deliver a supernatural fit and discovered a way to mimic the feel and responsiveness of Kangaroo leather while improving resistance to heat and cold and better recovery after stretch. Kangalite is also better for the planet, manufactured with 35% less carbon emissions compared to traditional materials…scoring before it’s on pitch.
Materials:
The Nike GS tongue and quarter are made of form fitting recycled polyester, made from 95% recycled plastic bottles. In 2011, Nike diverted the equivalent of 285 million bottles from landfills. The ultimate comeback for a bottle.
We refused to compromise. We obsessed over the details. We engineered a boot for the future: delivering superior performance and lower environmental impact.
